Chocolate Coconut Date Energy Balls Recipe with Optional Chia Seeds

As a runner if you are looking for a quick boost of energy, these super simple Chocolate Coconut Date Energy Balls hit the spot.  This recipe is so simple that your kids can make it for ya.  Added benefit they also travel well.

Just like everyone else I occasionally get into the mindset that life is too busy to make my own healthy snacks.  Forget that, these are fast and easy to make.  After eating one of these you’ll want to forget about grabbing another granola bar from your cabinet.

These also taste great cold, so feel free toss them in the fridge.


1 cup of raw nuts (almonds/walnuts/cashews)

1 cup of pitted dates (be sure to soak them if they are not moist.  Drain before blending)

1/4 cup of raw cocoa powder

1/2 cup of raw shredded coconut flakes

1 Tablespoon of Chia Seeds (Optional)








In a food processor, add the nuts and the cocoa powder until broken down.

Then add the dates, and half of the shredded coconut and process slowly until a sticky dough forms.

Remove the dough and roll it into balls.  You will get dirty here.

Finally roll each ball into shredded coconut.

Store in an air tight container or if you want them cold pop them in the fridge.
